Minister Han Changfu meets with CIP Board Chair Dr. Rodney D. Cooke

Minister Han Changfu met with the Board Chair of International Potato Center (CIP) Dr. Rodney D. Cooke and CIP Director General Dr. Barbara Wells and the CIP delegation in Beijing on April 18th, 2014.

 

Minister Han, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, congratulated CIP on the successful convening of its Board of Trustees Meeting and Ms. Barbara Wells on assuming the office of CIP Director General. 

 

During the meeting, Minister Han briefed the CIP delegation about the latest development in agriculture in China, particularly in the potato sector. The two sides exchanged views on the preparation of CIP-China Center for the Asia Pacific Region (CCCAP). 

 

Minister Han pointed out that intensified cooperation between China and CIP will help to improve research and production capacity of the potato industry in China and to share China's experience with other developing countries. China is willing to work with CIP to contribute to global food security and sustainable agricultural development. 

 

Minister Han stated that the Ministry of Agriculture of China attaches great importance to cooperation with CIP, particularly the preparation of CCCAP. He said he is convinced that with joint efforts from the two sides, CCCAP will become a world-class research agency dedicated to the development of the potato industry in Asia and Pacific.

 

Dr. Rodney Cooke spoke highly of the progress made in agriculture including the potato sector by China, praising China's leadership role in global potato industry development. He also expressed appreciation to China for its support to CCCAP preparation and CIP's willingness to further cooperation with China for global potato industry development.

 

MOA Chief Economist Bi Meijia attended the meeting.
